David was born and raised in Houston, Texas. His parents are Deaf. His father, whose parents also are Deaf, later became a pastor to the Deaf in Beaumont, Texas. David has two hearing sisters who are professional interpreters.
He graduated from Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas where he learned to love Texas Longhorns. After he graduated TSD, he attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. There he met and later married Jane Hammond from Santa Rosa, California.
They moved to Austin, Texas as he became a pastor at Austin Baptist Deaf Church. Their two children were born there, named Sara Jane and Calton. Leading by God, they decided to move to Santa Rosa to attend the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA.
Deciding to move Fremont because of a Deaf daughter, they made a very good choice for her to attend the California School for the Deaf. Also finding a church at MSCC was another very good choice.
