Several years ago a Christian teacher at a local high school talked to one of her students, who was failing her class. In the course of their talk, the student finally confided to her that he had not eaten for a few days. The teacher began investigating and found that there were numerous families that were struggling to put food on their tables. Out of that, Hope Connections was born. The teacher made it a student club and students soon rallied to help, making it the largest club in the school. Since that time, thousands of cans of food have been collected, thousands of pounds of rice and flour distributed, and hundreds of gifts given to needy families in the TriCity area.
A couple of years ago MSCC was asked to help with logistics. So once a year just before Christmas, we become the operational hub for a holiday food drive. School children from every conceivable background in our surrounding community donate food items. Many volunteers collect, sort, and package boxes of food, supplies, and sundries for needy families.
