Bio: Darren is a long time resident of the Bay Area having lived here off and on since 1995. He and his wife, Cheryl, were married in Aug. of 1995 and have four children: Justin, Zach, Trey, and Kate.
Darren has a passion for encouraging the local church to respond to the Holy Spirit's leadership and to live out and embody the message and mission of Jesus to people both locally and globally. Darren's spiritual journey has led him many times to a place of surrender and total dependency on God for everything. A couple of verses of scripture that have been transformative for Darren are Isaiah 40:27-31 and Isaiah 41:10.
Darren is also a big baseball fan and his favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. He and his wife enjoyed spending a couple of years in the greater Boston area and seeing quite a few games at Fenway Park. He also loves coaching baseball, golfing, camping, hiking and going to the beach with his family.
The Elder Council is responsible for the spiritual and financial integrity of the church and provides accountability and support to the Lead Pastor. MSCC's current elders are listed below.
Bio: Born and raised in the Bay Area, Kerry and her husband, Ken, started attending MSCC in 2007. Kerry's vocation is in human resources management and she has served on several ministries at MSCC including women's ministry, pastor search, small groups, greeting, cuisine, and softball. She was elected to the elder council in 2013. Married in 1980, Kerry and Ken have two grown children who were both baptized at MSCC.
Bio: I have been attending MSCC for more than 21 years, and have participated in several ministries including Stephen Ministry Leadership, Women's Ministries, Dance/Drama and Small Groups. My wonderful husband, Dave, and I have been married for over 24 awesomely hard years. We have two children, Samantha and Zachary.
Bio: Since 1991, George has called MSCC his home church, and for 20 of those years he felt called to serve in the children’s ministry. George stopped serving in the children's ministry only when he was asked to join the pastor search committee and then to become an Elder. Shortly after establishing MSCC their home church, George and Cathy were married here, and have 3 children now: Luke 19, Ben 17 and Timmy 15. Ben and Tim have special needs and George feels the church has been a good family for all of them. George believes he is alive today because of the prayers his church family provided over him when a major infection almost took his life. Along with participating in children’s ministry, pastor search and as an elder, George enjoys the hunting and fishing trips he helped to organize for fellowship and fun. When not at church, George works as a purchasing agent and is also a beekeeper.
Tracy Van Zanten
Bio: Tracy has attended the church since 1987 and has worked at MSCC since 1996. Tracy has degrees and coursework in deaf education, sign language interpreting, and library and information science, and is very much aware of how God has used her past education and experiences in her roles at MSCC. She is the person behind much of the information that you encounter such as the Sunday bulletins and eblasts. Among other things, she helps to plan various church programs, assists ministry leaders, and also coordinates MSCC's meals ministry. In general, Tracy loves to connect people with the information or help they need, so if you have any questions about the church, who to talk to about a ministry or anything else church related, you can always call or email her.
When she's not working, Tracy volunteers as an ESL tutor, participates in a community band and a marimba ensemble class, and spends time with family and friends. Other areas of interest include contemplative spiritual practices and issues of social justice.
Donny has attended MSCC since 2005, and in addition is an active member of MSCC's Deaf congregation. Donny has worked as Custodian since 2012 and very much sees his role as both a job and ministry, wanting to keep areas clean and ready for ministry during the week and for weekend church services for the 3 congregations that share the building. Donny has one son, James who is a sophomore in college. Donny's favorite hobby is hotwheels. He loves building and collecting hotwheels and attending hot wheels conventions. Other interests include 1950's and 1960's cars, collecting antique metal signs, and following the Alabama Crimson Tide!
